Methods of Shipping from China to Malaysia

Air freight and sea freight are the two main ways you can ship from China to Malaysia. Both these primary shipping options each come with distinct advantages tailored to meet diverse logistical needs.

While air freight promises swift and time-sensitive deliveries, sea freight excels in accommodating larger volumes and providing a cost-effective solution for cargo transportation between China and Malaysia.

Air freight

Air freight refers to the transportation of a shipment via an air carrier. It is the fastest way to ship your items, making it ideal for time-sensitive shipments.

It is also the most cost-efficient way of shipping packages that are small and light (below 30kg).

Additionally, it is also suitable for shipping larger shipments (120cm x 80cm x 80cm).

Sea freight

Sea freight is recommended for larger shipments and your cargo will be transported from one seaport to another using huge shipping containers and pallets.

This can be done via 2 methods: Full Container Load (FCL). and Less than Container Load (LCL).

FCL

FCL is a type of sea freight shipping whereby all goods in the container belong to a single shipper. Depending on the total amount of cargo you need to ship, you can choose from containers that are 20 inch and 40 inch in size.

LCL

LCL shipping is recommended if you do not have sufficient cargo to fill a container on your own. Your shipment will be consolidated with others so that you can enjoy competitive shipping rates.

Additional Notes for Air Freight Calculation:

For our air shipment calculation, certain parameters must be adhered to for smooth processing.

  • Each parcel must not exceed dimensions of 120cm x 80cm x 80cm and a maximum weight of 70kg.
  • Overweight and oversized parcels will incur additional charges accordingly

Typically, we employ two distinct methods for calculating billing weight based on the cargo’s characteristics:

(1) The Actual Weight Method applies when the difference between the actual weight and volumetric weight is ≤ 10kg, in which case the billing weight is equal to the actual weight.

(2) The Average Weight Method comes into play when the difference between actual weight and volumetric weight exceeds 10kg. In such instances, the billing weight is calculated as the average of the actual weight and volumetric weight divided by 2.

(3) Additionally, if the actual weight surpasses the volumetric weight, the billing weight will be based solely on the actual weight. These meticulous calculations ensure accurate and fair pricing for all shipments.

Assuming a shipment from China to West Malaysia, the actual weight method for air freight fees can be calculated as such:

Cost of Air Freight Shipping Via Actual Weight Method
DescriptionIf the difference of the actual weight and volumetric weight is less than 10kg, then the billable weight will be equal to the actual weight
ExampleActual weight of cargo = 8kg

Volumetric weight of cargo = 5.4kg

*Assume volumetric weight of parcel is (30x30x30cm) / 5,000 = 5.4kg
Shipping FeesAs the difference in the actual weight and volumetric weight is 2.6kg (which is less than 10kg), the actual shipping fee will be:

8kg x RM 15.50 = RM 124

Average Weight Method

Assuming a shipment from China to West Malaysia, the average weight method for air freight fees can be calculated as such:

Cost of Air Freight Shipping Via Average Weight Method
DescriptionIf the difference of the actual weight and volumetric weight is more than 10kg, then the billable weight will be equal to (actual weight + volumetric weight) / 2
ExampleActual weight of cargo = 8kg

Volumetric weight of cargo = 43.2kg

*Assume volumetric weight of parcel is (60x60x60cm) / 5,000 = 43.2kg
Shipping FeesAs the difference in the actual weight and volumetric weight is 35.2kg (which is more than 10kg), the actual shipping fee will be:
